Roger is a Master Teacher and an examiner for the British Academy of Stage & Screen Combat (BASSC) and a Certified Teacher with the Society of American Fight Directors (SAFD). His book, Stage Combat: Unarmed (published by Nick Hern Books) is available in store and online. A second book, Stage Combat: Armed (Rapier & Dagger) is also due to be published by Nick Hern Books.
He is a member of the Equity Register of Fight Directors and has been Master of stage combat at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire for more than twenty years.
Roger’s theatre credits include: Shakespeare in Love (Crown Wharf Theatre), Arthur/Merlin (Iris Theatre), Eugene Onegin (OperaUpClose), The Three Musketeers (Iris Theatre), King Arthur (Gods & Monsters Theatre), A Christmas Treasure Island (Hull Truck Theatre), A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Liverpool Everyman), African Gothic (Park Theatre) and King Charles III (Birmingham Rep & Tour).
He has worked at venues around the country including the Minack Theatre, Warwick Castle, Southwark Playhouse, New Arcola Theatre, Royal & Derngate Theatres Northampton, Hampstead Theatre Downstairs, Theatre Royal Haymarket, Belgrade Theatre Coventry, Lichfield Garrick and Regent Theatre Stoke.
On screen, Roger has been the fight coordinator on documentaries for Sky and BBC productions. He has choreographed fights for various short films including My Brother is a Mermaid (After Everything Entertainment) (Best British Short - Norwich Film Festival; Best British Short – Iris Prize), Purple Heather (Constellations Entertainment) (Best British Short Film – Southampton Film Festival) and was co-stunt coordinator for the feature film The Intent 2: The Come Up which won Best Action Film at the National Film Awards.
