Stewart Nicholls is one of the UK’s leading director/choreographers of musical theatre.  Credits include: A Spoonful of Sherman (Zédel/St James); Aladdin and Jack and the Beanstalk (Derngate Northampton/Qdos); Bumblescratch (Adelphi); Bar Mitzvah Boy (Gatehouse); Cinderella (Crewe Lyceum/Qdos); Love Birds (Pleasance, Edinburgh); Business As Usual (Everyman, Cheltenham);  Jewish Legends (Radlett/Gatehouse); Free As Air (Finborough); Gay’s the Word (Jermyn Street/Finborough);  Lunch With Marlene (National tour); Hetty Feinstein’s Wedding Anniversary (New End); Beatlemania (Gothenburg Opera House); South Pacific (Birmingham Symphony Hall/BBC Radio 2); Over My Shoulder (National tour/Wyndham’s); Carousel (St David’s Halls/BBC Radio 3), the première of Charles Hart’s Love Songs (Bridewell Theatre, London) and six pantomimes for Hall for Cornwall/Hiss and Boo.  Choreography (only) includes; Iolanthe, Princess Ida and The Mikado (Buxton Opera House/National tour); Cowardy Custard (National tour); Noël and Gertie (Cockpit Theatre) and Tim Rice’s revival of Blondel (Pleasance Theatre).  Stewart specializes in reviving, directing, choreographing and archiving forgotten works by major British musical theatre writers. Projects include restoring Noël Coward’s Sail Away (published by Warner/Chappell Music), and producing many CDs, including the Grammy Award nominated The Amazons. He has lectured on the history, direction and choreography of musical theatre, has written sleeve notes for various CDs, and is a contributing author to The Oxford Handbook of the British Musical. Stewart has directed in various Drama Schools, and is Programme Leader for the MA Course in Musical Theatre at the Guildford School of Acting/Surrey University.
